Great... when it works
I have a Mac, FWIW. When the Apollo device works, it’s fantastic. That being said I have had some sort of technical challenge almost every time I use it, which inevitably involves constantly restarting my computer and plenty of sessions spent endeavoring down some long, frustrating and ambiguous path to try to resolve the issue (absolutely eviscerating whatever creative energy I was on). For this money, I should expect plug and play!!

No sound. New Purchase
Let me start by saying I love everything about this interface......... With that be saying said, I have had some issues with crackling and no sound coming from the device during playback. The display shows that sound is relaying to the device, but no sound is produced. I have found that f i toggle between the inputs using the preamp button it will trigger sound. This implies to me that there is a short somewhere in device itself. I have tried to find any alternative information but have been unsuccessful. Apart from that, I love the interface ( when it is working) Please help resolve.

Trouble during replacing plugins

Great quality in MacOS, disappointed in Windows
Everything works really well in MacOS, no problems and no annoying configuration challenges to overcome. Windows is a different story, though. WDM does not work properly (skipping, popping, crackling.) I followed all of the guides on UAD's website to no avail. Disabling speed step, changing power profile, you name it... didn't resolve the issue with WDM. I'm a bit disappointed because I really want to use the interface with things like Discord and in online games. I was able to find an ASIO driver for OBS Studio so at least my Twitch stream works properly and has high quality voice... but I have to use a secondary mic for everything else (anything that doesn't support ASIO audio interfaces..) -- I really hope UAD can figure out a way to fix this because audio production is only one of the things I enjoy doing with the device.

Lots of great value, but some issues with stability
Having issues with it crashing my laptop at least once a day. Love the functions of it and sounds great. Not thrilled I have to sit throught this many reboots. Been doing this a long time and have had several pro levels of gear and this is the first time i've dealt with this on such a consistant basis.

Quality is there with one catch
No doubt that the quality of preamps and conversion is there but the limitations of the SHARC chips is hard to believe in 2019. Even the most CPU/RAM hungry native plugins can be stacked multiple times over on a base level i7 with 8gb of RAM, so why bother with limitations of the SHARC chips? Everyone is on the emulation bandwagon and many companies have their own method of creating a “perfect” emulation. Some better than others, and many are just as spot on as the UAD stuff. On the manufacturers side of things, I get it. Set yourself apart and create a lucrative world of recording hardware and software that is entirely contained. Once a customer commits to the hardware, the rabbit hole opens. From a customer standpoint, there are countless other ways to better spend the thousands it costs to be a part of the UAD world. A quality interface and a new Mac Mini with some dough for plugins will get you much further than an Apollo Twin MKII

Idle processing
Ok, at the risk of being burned at the stake for saying I’m not entirely in love with the Apollo Twin, I do have to ask why this unit is being pushed so hard at guitarists, when, if you open more than 3 plugins, the unit freaks out, saying the dsp is maxed out. The other dsp though (I bought the duo) is sat with its feet up, doing nothing!
It would also be great to see an effects loop on the heads so you could make use of existing pedals you have, via ins and outs on the twin.

Can't power 4 plugins
I thought this could power four of the plugins at once, but it often can't. Also, I had to buy a chord and adapter which was another $90. I feel like it should come with more plugins. Besides that I like it, but I'm not sure I would have purchased it knowing what I know now.

Great product but not happy with customer service.
I really like this interface. But I think it sucks that just a couple of days after I bought it, it comes with extra plugins. And when I asked customer service if I was able to get it aswell the answer was no. And that was after universal audio said them self to ask customer service via instagram. I think that sucks when I bought both an arrow and a apollo within the last 4 weeks..

Only one and a half year of life
My sound card just died after a year and a half of use at home. She just stopped turning on. I had to buy the same one. This suggests that they are very short-lived, but since this is the best product on the market, there is simply no choice.

Great product, still terrible instability with Windows 10
Sad that's it's so hard to have an Apollo Thunderbolt Interface Working perfectly with Windows 10.... Sounds great and have some awesome clean pres, but always experiencing some popping and distortion on the playback... Sad.

The sound is NOT way greater than AIF price around $200.
If you just want to use UAD-2 plugins, you should go buy satellite.

I bought the Duo Mk2 to upgrade from my first generation Duo, i opened a couple projects and noticed that the DSP was not letting me load the amount of plugins i was used to, if i connect my older Duo i can load session with no problem, so it just looks like the new ones doesn't handle as many plugins as the old ones, the preamps and everything else sounded the exact same, i would recommend anyone to just get the old one or just get simply something else.

Meets standards
Great quality as expected. You only get a few plugins wich is annoying since what you really buy into is the dsp processing. The console is a bit awkward to use and sometimes plugins won’t open so a restart is needed. Might just be bad luck on my behalf, who knows. Adding additional plugins didn’t work out for me so I had to download and install all over again. Really satisfied with the sound of the plugins! The reverb plugin you get for free has a really bad design that sticks out, but the rest is really well designed and pleasing too look at and work with. You don’t get that much dsp so you have to get used to freezing tracks if you like to use a lot of plugins.

Not a usb-c. Very hot.
UAD plugins are great and unique. But... no usb-c port. I need to have tb3 to tb2 adapter. And it's really hot. HOT. that's the first interface with temperature problem I've had experience with.

1. Ответы на вопрос, поставленный в заголовке, никак не будут затрагивать звук. Это весьма субъективное понятие, к тому же, я и сам не доверяю своим ушам. Ниже все будет рассматриваться исключительно в разрезе юзабилити для человека, играющего на гитаре дома и вне дома.
2. Т.к. я имею опыт использования карты RME Babyface (PRO), то все ответы будут строиться на сравнении UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO с RME Babyface (PRO). Спойлер! Да, я считаю RME Babyface (PRO) лучшим решением (до 50000 рублей) для гитариста, дальше можно не читать.
Итак, ты либо не прочитал предложение после слова «Спойлер!» до слова «Итак», либо тебе попросту нечем заняться. Продолжим.
Цена. Здесь комментировать нечего. RME Babyface PRO 749 usd UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO 899 usd. Цена с сайта www.sweetwater.com
Комплектация. С RME Babyface PRO в комплекте идёт все необходимое для начала работы сразу из коробки. Особенно нас интересует USB кабель для подключения к компьютеру, который в комплекте с UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO не идёт. Естественно, UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO работает по thunderbolt, однако thunderbolt кабель в комплекте не идёт. А оригинальный thunderbolt кабель 0,5 метра на сайте www.apple.com стоит 2290 рублей. Максимально дешевый thunderbolt кабель с aliexpress с большой долей вероятности не подойдет. Помимо кабеля подключения к компьютеру, гитаристов, играющих вне дома, к коим я себя отношу, интересует кейс или сумка для переноски. С RME Babyface PRO идёт жесткий пластиковый кейс, в котором карта, USB кабель и MIDI кабель жёстко зафиксированы, сама карта ещё так же при этом помещается в тряпочный чехол. С RME Babyface не PRO идет в комплекте фирменная сумка, по удобству не уступающая кейсу. Как вы уже догадались, с UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO никаких сумок и кейсов не предусмотрено. В принципе, можно (и нужно, т.к. иных вариантов нет) переносить карту в родной коробке, но это не сильно уступает по удобству RME, т.к. карта с коробкой представляют из себя куб, который в обычный рюкзак, не говоря уже о гитарных чехлах, не влезет. Однако, стоит заметить, что с UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO в комплекте идёт блок питания. Большое спасибо за это, ведь без него карта не работает (RME Babyface PRO может работать только по USB). Ещё один минус в плане мобильности от человека, играющего вне дома. К слову, блок питания выглядит очень дешево, но отмечу, что в комплекте несколько вилок, европейская в том числе.
I/O. Здесь я подхожу вопросу исключительно со своей стороны. В RME Babyface PRO есть MIDI и оптические как вход, так и выход. Я использовал Presonus Digimax FX (#кстатипродаю) как внешний преамп для увеличения количества входов и выходов на RME. Нетрудно догадаться, что с этим устройством я могу увеличить только количество входов в UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO. MIDI в UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO нет. Линейные выходы на RME Babyface PRO - xlr, на UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO - trs. Готовьте разъёмы или новые кабели, если переходите с других карт на UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO.
UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO снабжен двумя процессорами sharc, которые, помимо своих превосходных технических характеристик, отличаются сильным тепловыделением. Активного охлаждения в UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO нет, отчасти поэтому корпус имеет большое количество вентиляционных отверстий, которые, к слову, не сильно спасают ситуацию. Карта греется значительно. Такая конструкция корпуса так же не сильно практична для гитариста, иногда слезающего с дивана. Ничто не мешает пыли, грязи, рвоте, пиву, моче и прочим субстанциям, присущим настоящему rock-музыканту, оказаться сразу же на плате. RME Babyface PRO имеет достаточно монолитный корпус. Рабочие температуры значительно ниже.
Регулировки и кнопки на самой карте лично мне у UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO кажутся удобнее. Их больше, чем у RME Babyface PRO. Я ими активно пользуюсь и могу сделать практически все, не заходя в консоль, кроме наложения плагинов.
Консоль. У RME Babyface PRO она называется Totalmix. Возможностей в Totalmix больше. Все их я перечислить не смогу, так как функционал Totalmix я на 100 процентов не использовал. Перечислю лишь те, что я пока не смог найти в консоли UAD: лупбэк, настройка отдельного микса для наушников и мониторов. Расскажите, пожалуйста, как это сделать в UAD. И самое печальное, что нет версии консоли UAD для ipad. Totalmix есть. Он платный, но он есть.
Плагины. В UAD их много, более 130, неудобно лишь то, что они сразу все подгружаются в компьютер и купленные и некупленные, даже те, которые ты никогда использовать не будешь, ты вынужден будешь видеть их все в консоли и в daw всегда. Все плагины крутые, но именно эмуляция гитарных усилителей не такая уж и крутая. Я не занимаюсь сведением и мастерингом, большая часть плагинов мне попросту не интересна. Меня интересует лишь модуляция, делеи и ревербераторы. А это крайне небольшая часть от общего их числа. Там есть много качественной реализации легендарных железок. Это однозначно плюс UAD-у. Думаю, заядлый звукоинженер UAD-овец посчитает меня дураком, выбравшим в качестве интерфейса для гитариста, иногда слезающего с дивана, UAD. Его основное преимущество - качественные плагины, работа которых возможна на мощностях самой карты, а не компьютера. Учитывая это и вышесказанное, я полагаю, что UAD Apollo Twin mk II DUO не является лучшим решением (до 50000 рублей) для гитариста.

Doesn't integrate with iMac as well as my apogee ensemble did. Plugins are way to expensive. It gets real HOT real fast.
