An LA-2A in a Live Keyboard? Meet Selene.

Composer, film editor, and Black Dynamite visionary Adrian Younge has another talent we’ve learned about — designing musical instruments that can capture the nostalgic vinyl-worn sound of the 1970s... live.
Meet the Selene keyboard: a one-of-a-kind, sample-based instrument that plays and sounds like a retro relic.  Working with Jack Waterson, Michael Wait, and Luke Jones (Ken Rich Sound Services), Younge recorded acoustic instruments through vintage microphones, and compressed them hard to analog tape using an Universal Audio 1176LN Classic Limiting Amplifier. These samples are processed live through the Teletronix LA-2A Classic Leveling Amplifier that's built right into the keyboard, to give it the proper vintage sound on any sample played. The Selene can be heard throughout Something About April, the follow-up album to Younge’s Black Dynamite Score on Wax Poetics Records.

Settle into your nearest bean bag, and check out this heady video on Selene, which is a journey through time and sound in itself:
