Ampeg® B-15N Bass Amplifier
-
The iconic bass amp sound of the ’60s and ’70s, exclusively for UAD-2 and Apollo.
The Ampeg B-15 bass amp defined the sound of recorded electric bass. From Motown sides with James Jamerson to classic Stax records with Donald “Duck” Dunn, this 30-watt, 1x15, all-tube brute oozes character — delivering a warm and fat fundamental note that laid the foundation for ’60s and ’70s rock, funk, and soul.
Developed by Brainworx, the Ampeg B-15N Bass Amplifier plug-in perfectly emulates the circuitry, tone stack, and iconic thump of Ampeg’s limited-edition Heritage B-15N bass amp — exclusively for UAD-2 hardware and
Apollo interfaces.Now You Can:
Track and reamp with legendary all-tube, B-15 tone — from jazzy clean to warm overdrive to heavy distortion
Harness two flavors of the iconic B-15 circuit — 1964 and 1966 — each with switchable bias controls for further tweaking
Hone your tone with the robust and meticulously emulated two-band Baxandall EQ
Audition 42 separate high-end recording chains, featuring four different cabinets and multiple classic microphones
Take A Listen
The Sound of Giants
The Ampeg B-15N Bass Amplifier plug-in flawlessly captures the original hardware’s dual 6L6-powered circuit as well as its simple, ultra-musical two-band Baxandall EQ. Simply use the Volume control to dial in rich, smoky tones, perfect for jazz and soul, or inch the Volume up for a fat guttural growl that teams with harmonics and character.
Two Channels, Tons of Tones
An evolution of the classic B-15 recipe, the B-15N sports two channels — 1964 and 1966 — each offering two flavors of iconic tones. The 1964 side gives you a 25-watt cathode biased circuit, whereas the 1966 input features a 30-watt, fixed bias circuit. Sonically, the 1964 side is spongier and breaks up earlier, while the 1966 input gives you a tad more headroom and midrange beef. Additionally, you can toggle between selectable bias modes, yielding even more tones and textures.
B-15N FX Rack
The B-15N plug-in provides additional control over your sound through the inclusion of the Brainworx FX Rack. It features a Noise Gate to control low-end buzz, switchable high-pass and low-pass filters to provide even more tonal options, and a Power Soak circuit that allows you to dial in as much overdrive as you want, without having to crank the output gain.
Unison™ Technology for Apollo Interfaces
Harnessing UA’s groundbreaking Unison technology, the Ampeg B-15N plug-in gives you the impedance, gain staging, and circuit behaviors that have contributed to making this iconic bass combo one of the most recorded bass amps in history.

Good, but not my favourite Ampeg
Decent plugin, and have found places to use it, but sometimes I find it sounds a bit fake.. I prefer the amp models on my Kemper or even some of the other Ampeg models from UAudio.

This is the real deal!
I owned a '68 B-12N for 25 years and spent years playing through a B-15 and a B-18. This plug-in captures that amp!! I completely recognize the Ampeg fliptop sound and feeling but without tube/cap/pot replacements and with recall. So good!

Saved me a long long search
Now my Fender Jazz Bass '72 is really sounding like an even older Precision somehow. No need to look further, I can sound like James Jamerson if (I practice my index finger a lot more)

Very good
I own a couple of Ampeg amps (SVT & Portaflex) so I know exactly what the "real deal" sounds like. This beautiful plugin reproduces that tone and vibe with great accuracy. Well done.

Best Bass Amp Plugin so far
Of all the bass amp sims this one feels the best to me. Warm fat and clear. The fx rack add ons are useful too.

Solid

Like the Real thing.
I was planning to buy the Ampeg portaflex, and I probably will sometime in the future. But now i’m not in a hurry anymoore. This plugin is great! It puts the bass perfectly in the mix with all the beautiful tone, grit and dirt you can possible expect from a real tube amp. It just sounds Amazing!

Green Day!
Decided to give this a try after reading Butch Walker used it on the latest Green Day album, which has killer bass tones (in my opinion). Absolutely love it. I feel ambarassed that I overlooked it for so long but better late than never!

Eleven
offering the OX Box technology in a plugin would be kind of a big thing to people..
something about the way a tube rectifier supply reacts to loading....if Mesa/Boogie is going to be a snot about licencing plugins, then make Eleven with selectable power supply rectifiers, and just walk around them..E. Koch
Eleven
and make sure you have Brainworxs get you the B-15N power section here for Eleven...
it's the only tube rectifier driven 6L6 sectionE. Koch
Eleven
you get all the power amp sections from the Brianworxs plugs, get the acoustic feedback from Softube, and the cab and mic modeling from the UA OX box, and put it all under one GUI....Eleven.
E. Koch
Eleven
think of Eleven as a consolidated modular tube power amp/cab/mic/and adjustable acoustic feedback plugin,
( where guitars and pickups are already modular, and preamps are going that way.. );
a way to get rid of the soaked amp heat, and the electrical power consumption that entails.
Eleven would be a true "green plugin"E. Koch
Eleven
think about how much national electricity would be saved if Eleven had modeled power amp sections....then, not only could people use the Brainworx Plug preamps, but also people wouldn't be power soaking their real tube amps....
and maybe more tube amp manufacturers would make amps with separate standby and power switches for their amp's preamps...or just start offering real tube preamps..
synthesizers were modular from the beginning...i don't understand why guitar amplification would take so long.E. Koch
Eleven
Eleven would work with all the Brainworx amps, ( except mine here ) if it had a Power Amp Selector Section, ( by tube type, #, and power supply rectifier )....i guess packaging tube power amp sections with Softube's acoustic feedback and UA's OX response, would be the best thing....
that way people can pick their preamps..
if Eleven, ( like that ) had a digital pre gain control...then i could just run a 610B...
i wired a Jensen Balancing DI transformer into my Baritone guitar's electronics...
so my "guitar cable" is actually a balanced XLR mic cable...and so, with the addition of a digital gain, the 610B would drive it just fine.....if UA wants to do Eleven that way..
