bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synthesizer
Add bone-shaking subharmonic
bass to your sources.
Born in the days of disco, subharmonic synthesizers helped overcome the low-end limitations of vinyl, giving DJs, sound designers, and club mixers pounding kick drums and booty-shaking basslines that defined dance music.
Developed by Brainworx, the bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synth plug-in for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces takes its cues from the iconic dbx 120XP Subharmonic Synthesizer, but with a host of modern features.
Now You Can:
Easily add massive low-end punch without affecting the midrange
Beef up kick drums, bass synths, or even old vinyl
Use the M/S feature to pinpoint where you add bass
Harness features like the extra frequency band, the Edge section, and the expanded metering

Updating a Classic
The bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synthesizer plug-in takes the dbx 120XP’s Waveform Modeling engine one step further by adding a third synthesis band. This extends the upper end of the synthesis range from 56 Hz up to 80 Hz — where many crucial instrument fundamentals lie — allowing you to process a wider range of sources, from electronic kick drums to bass synths and more.
The bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synthesizer plug-in’s Edge section lets you compress and saturate your source — a handy feature for shaping subharmonic content or building explosive transient peaks. And with Smooth or Harsh modes, Squeeze and Drive, as well as Low/High-Cut filters, you’re afforded an unprecedented amount of control over subharmonic information.
Full Stereo Spectrum Control
The bx_subsynth’s M/S features give you the option to focus the processing only on the mid channel. Sound designers will love being able to pump the center up to blockbuster proportions without affecting the sides. The stereo field can be further tweaked with the Mono Maker and Stereo Width controls, which keep the image in phase and provide you with total control over the perceived signal width.
“Say goodbye to thin kicks, toms, and synths. The bx_subsynth generates ultra-low bottom end from sources where little-to-none exists. And its array of innovative tools let you sculpt your newfound bottom end for truly unique sounds.”

Easy to Use, Sounds and Feels Great
This plugin is fantastic for many mixes to fatten up drums, bass and synth and to add low end subharmonic frequencies that will get people moving their feet and swaying to the beats. It's also a great tool to use when recording synths, making many patches sound more dramatic, which will inspire you to play your best and get better control over your dynamics. There's even lots of great uses for guitars, especially when using lowered pitch effects, slaps, percussive taps and dropped tunings. I typically use an API preamp for fattening up my bass when recording, but it's probably the next best thing.
Presets are great for getting in the right zone for a wide range of applications that can then be easily tweaked to taste. If you work or play with rock or other electronic genre it may be just the secret sauce your looking for to spice up your sound and inspire you to play your best.

Life in the Low End!
This makes filling in the spaces in the low end easy. I would have never thought that it could be so easy to create a wall of sound. Better yet defined low end. It is so useful, whether on individual tracks or the master bus you will not be disappointed!
J. GOMEZ TRAVIESO
It does the job if you want a big and controlled bass. Using this on low end is amazing. Good for single tracks, busses and master.
Even with moderate use, it transforms perception of low end into a whole new experience.
Subtle Thickening to Big Boom
I almost didn't buy this plugin as I was thinking of it as an occasional use novelty effect. Glad I changed my mind! I use it all the time, on kick drum, bass guitar, synth bass, keys, sax and the mix buss in all styles of music. Yes it can be over the top and showy but I find it really useful as a almost-not-there enhancer which you quickly notice if you switch it off. The interface gives you lots of control in this respect to make sure you get the right balance. The Low Cut knob stops things getting too silly and prevents you adding too much bottom end that isn't obvious until you get onto monitoring with subs. With the Edge and Filter controls, It's surprising how different the three bands can sound - subby, punchy, gritty. The response is snappy too, the attack doesn't seem delayed in any way.
A Good Kind of Punch in The Gut
Wow, this plugin is exactly what dull tracks need. Find sub frequencies where they weren't before, and make them sing with this bad boy. As with everything, be temperament in your coloring- great results are imminent.
Great plugin for squeezing out that bottom octave. Adds a foundation to sounds that EQ alone can't deliver. Easy to overdo though - subtlety is the key for me.
Helpful as a creative tool and as a repair tool
I bought this plugin with the idea of using it mainly on bass and kick drum but I soon ended up using it in various situations: while mastering a track that needed some beefy low-end and on voices, guitars and horns. Of course, there is always the danger of overuse of a plugin like this, especially during the first days after purchase. Nonetheless, if used wisely, it can be helpful both as a creative tool and as a repair tool to fix certain critical situations.
Sinfully Decadent Cabinet Crushing Interior Decorator
I Like Big Bass...I Cannot Lie! BX Sub Synth Is In A Class All By Itself! Easy To Over Do It Though. This Plugin Needs A Trim % Knob To Dial It Back From It's Massiveness. Blends Bass Frequencies Sesmlessly, But Can Get More Compressed Than I Like, but Without Mud or Flabbiness. Use A Good Sub-Woofer To Accurately Dial In Your Level Of Super Fat Ground Shaking Heart Thumping Bassliciousness. P.S. - Don't Blow Up Your Cabinets....You've Been Warned. And...It Is All About The Bass!
Controlling The floor
I find that this plugin really helps with unwanted lows. You can bring down low harmonics for you to give or take the push. I like it allot on Bass GTR and synths. If impact is what you are trying to control this is for you. Just a kiss to bliss
perfect magic plugin
It can make smooth low end.
when we use this plugin on drum or bass.
It make them highlight so nice.
GOOD GOD IT IS SO GOOD ...
i use it almost everything has a low end I love it thank you so much UAD...
this unit is great for certain styles, although i dont understand why the signal flow is different than the gui flow.. ? use this unit gently - especially when your monitors dont reproduce the lowest lows.. :) less is more
Love The bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synth. Get a True 4TH BANG DOWN LOW w/ this one!
Wow! That's all I needed to round out the collection. This is the Cake in my Mixes. I've had the icing on Top......now I'm really Good -to-Go. Love The bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synth. It makes me smile. Love it!
I'm on a subharmonic mission for you baby, I feel the waves you are growing. I picked you up at the UAD store, I feel your undercurrent flowing.
It does the job.
Subsynth is a brilliant plugin. I've only had chance to use it on 3 masters so far. On each one its tightened up the low end, and given the bottom end a smooth sheen. Results are like what I would expect out of a high end pro studio session. Can't wait to try this on Kicks, Synths, Bass and possibly even guitars!...we'll see.
Despite how useful I'm finding it, its quite a finiky plugin. There doesn't seem to be much give between modest sub frequencies and extreme amounts. It may just require getting used too though. When its set right, it really adds a polish and amazing bottom end punch. Definately the best Subharmonic plugin I've ever used.
Not an essential compared to some of the other plugins on the UA platform. So if you're new to UA, pick up some of thier amazing EQ's, compressors and verbs first; but for plugin hoarders, this one might just fill a hole in your plugin collection. It may end up being one of my go-to's in my mastering chain.
And like the promo video said, brilliant on Hip-Hop beats, EDM tracks, but also seems like it would be great for most rock sub-genres too.
