blown away!
wow. what is this thing doing?! it's adding so much richness and character while being so flexible! the range of different sounds you can achieve using the shadow hill is enormous: from subtle compression - to little fatting - to merciless pumping, but: all time adding this punch and openness. transparence. musicality..... there are so many words to describe it, but better get the demo and be impressed yourself.
this one got my favorite compressor on the 2-bus, but does an awesome job on almost anything else: vocals. bass. drumbus. guitars....... while not needing too much DSP (5.7% in mono or stereo use.... compared to Fatso 25,6% mono / 40,7% stereo.... or Teletronix LA2A 16,2% mono / 21,2% stereo..... WOW!

Add both punch and preserves the
transparancy at the same time. The
new goto in my mastering chain in WL7. :-)

Fantastic! I actually still have over 200 days of a complimentary demo left on it but bought the licence because it so cool. Love the selection of Nickel etc. really nice touch that has some great results. It is such a natural sounding device to have at hand that holds a really sympathetic but important position in a project like another band member!!!
I got a years kind of endorsement trial of all the plugs to help me decide what are essential for me and Shadow Hills is defo in with the essentials. It's in there!!!!

SHMC --- super clean awesomeness
it's just awesome... will take me a year or more to get really good at understanding this but then again all UAD stuff requires a good amount of time to learn and really understand intuitively... WINNING!

Don't try this plugin cause you'll buy it. I would put it on my bread if I could. A real beautyfier for just about anything.

Shadow Hills best Compressor Plug-In
This compressor is really impressive , versatile, give punch and loudness without destroying music. Actually my first comp for mastering , and vocal.

Excellent!
Try this compressor, you won't be disappointed. Surprisingly versatile; use it on tracks, busses, and entire mixes. The presets are very useful as well as a great starting point. The VCA circuit on the SHMC even does a great imitation of a DBX 160 giving kick and snare lots of smack. After about 24 hours of using it I was hooked! This is now an indispensable drum compressor for me. The side chain filter is nice too, prevents pumping. I also appreciate the large UI, which makes it easier to tweak just the sound you are looking for. UA, keep making the large UI's! :-)

100% My mastering compressor.
I never had the privilege to test the hardware but I have for a wild a Theremionic-The Phoenix and I have to say , OMG.
I cant believe that this is a plugin.
Bas frequency is super power full and clean , top end very sweet but still clear and present. The mid frequency are well balanced and warm.
No matter what kind of music this is definitely an essential piece of equipment.

Unbelievable!
UA did it again....as always!! You press the "demo mode" button and then you have to buy the damn plugin :-). I really didn´t think I needed another compressor but...HEY....how wrong was I!!

The bad reviews are from folks that don't get this device
Naturally folks expecting another 33609, LA2A, 1176 will be disappointed. It's a different animal. Used independently you can get some great color from each of the compressor stages in the usual way, but we have other tools that can do these sources well though.
Where this beast shines is on busses, especially the master bus. it imparts a smoothness and glue that other compressors don't, and when used properly you retain all the punch and power of the original mix. WHEN USED PROPERLY.
All you want are a couple of dB of reduction total. Set it for 1 dB of red. on the optical and 1-2 dB on the discrete side and adjust the transformer to taste. Instant glue. Run into the Ampex and it sounds just like a record! Awesome.

Best mastering compressor plugin on the market!!
Wow is all I have got to say!! I use this in all of my mastering sessions and I am floored how round, deep, and punchy my kick drums become! It just adds a mojo to the whole track. The fact that all the transformers and sonic character were modeled is quite evident! Abosolute Mojo to my tracks. Period.

Niece piece. Sounds musical and transparent. Nice-Good to have to have. Very openly speaking, the look is more amazing than the sound. Overall, too expensive in my opinion.

I was very impressed with the way he handle the bass and highs. While pushing the sounds forward in a very natural and pleasant way to my ears.
