very nice, love this tool for my masters, one of the interesting features of the plugin is its ability to treat the left and right channels either as a stereo pair or independently. Not only does that mean that each channel can compress separately if required, helping to maintain the stereo image, but it also allows different settings to be applied to each channel.

Excellent, essential, be sure to purchase it. Your master will be perfect with this plugin, use it in a mastering is like connecting a ferrari.

what can i say....STRONG
I have used a lot of mastering units. I currently use Avalon 747 for my 2buss. With the Tube warmth, the incredible EQ and the very smooth compression this is my main go go.
I have been druling over the SHMC for a year now,went to Vintage King Nashville to see one. When I had to chance to do the Plugin thing I went for it. I am very happy with all the differen sounds this thing has. it is very think in sound, you know what it is when y ou hear it. I does not "pump"...and will really glue and smelt your tracks as one. Use the low pass to keep the lows virtually untouched. Cons...I would have loved to see more presets from the pros on different subjects i.e. Kick drum, Male vocal light, med, and heavy, skybluenashville.com

Great compressor for coloring and bussing!
What a beast! This isn't one of those compressors you're going to want to use on everything (opto duh) but it kills on drum buss! Keeps the kick and snare fat while adding some nice "glue". I Haven't experimented with it too much on 2-bus but when used lightly it adds some nice coloration. I have never heard the hardware so I cant say how well it emulates it, but this is definitely a must-have compressor in anyone's arsenal! Great buy.

Fantastic Mastering Compressor
I'd be lying if I said I had tried the real thing, but I can say that this is a phenomenal mastering plug. It also has gotten some use on drums. If you only buy a few plugins, make this one a priority.

Excellent Buss Compressor
After reading and hearing rave reviews of the SHMC, I figured I would go for it. After playing with it for about 15 minutes, I took the new Slate Digital VBC off of every stereo buss of an album I was mixing and replaced it with the SHMC. It seems to cleanly fatten the sound of my mixes. It's hard to make it sound bad or pump. Being able to manipulate the signal with the opto stage before hitting the discrete stage is very useful in stereo buss compression. Looks great, sounds great, and the hi-pass filter is simple but very valuable!

tame extremly dynamic wah wah sax
I am a saxplayer and the shadow hill compressor tamed my wah wah - sax recording extremly well. It still sounds awesome dynamicly although it is compressed.
I don't know how shadowhill can do this but this compressor my first choice for dynmaic saxophone recordings.
Good to keep the saxsound well even in a house-production.

Best compressor for general purpose and mastering.

Great sounding, larger than life, smooth like silk, high headroom never distorted. no one comp plugin can come close.

This guy took a bit of getting used to with the two comps interacting but once I got the hang of it, this has become my go to buss comp. It has a sheen and clarity to it while still being able to create a punchy up from sound to tracks. It does things none of my other comps can do.

A Mixing and Mastering Gem
UA has amazing compressor plugins. And in that sea of greatness, I absolutely love this one! It has proven so versatile-- with the two types of compression that can be used individually, or linked together. I generally use it on the master buss for mixes, and in most of my mastering chains. The switchable output section, along with the sidechain feature make it a breeze to dial in the sound of the low end as well as the clarity of the highs, on anything I'm working on. And the fact that it's light on system resources means that I can also put it on other busses in the mix. A must have.

Awesome compressor for almost everything
I tried it for 14 days on a lot of things like for mastering, on busses (drums, mix) and on solo tracks: lead vocals, bass, background vocal groups, acoustic guitars, snare.... etc.
All I can say is WOW!!!!! It shines so many different sources and is very versatile. It definitely has some mojo in it - you can it very smooth or hard and aggressive and its very easy to set up - a few seconds and I have the sound that I want !!

inconspicuous but very effective
in my opinion the opto compressor gives a very subtle colour - the vca compressor is very snappy - I like the combiniation of the two compressors - in addition to the three output transformer modes you get a very well and smooth compressed signal

I am in the demo stage on this one and I'm definitely not impressed--why is this?
1) The control panel is laid out in a very confusing manner, with numbers and dial indicators way tiny and confusing to read.
2) Quite simply it's so "all or nothing" in its treatment of sound that I'd rather master through my Boss Compressor foot pedal for guitar that I've had since I was in a 1980s big-hair band.
3) It doesn't play nice with other plug ins. I can combine an ATR-102, for example, with all manner of compressors and limiters, but not this one.
Skip this plug-in and go for something more user friendly and sonicall superior, like the UAD multi-band.

Great sounding plugin and very versatile
This thing is jaw dropping! I obtain great results on everything: drums, guitars, voice, and mix buss. The Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor is very versatile and very easy to use. I am using daily on a rock project I am working on right now. Keep up the great work!

I'd pay $50.00 for the plugin, but over 200? Seriously? The emperor is naked!
This plugin was difficult to decide. I've happily paid for some expensive UAD plugins, but even in UA''s promo video the plugin and the analog unit did not sound comparable side by side. Not even close. I think that the GUI is so cool that it blinds users to exactly how mediocre this plugin is, and its slick appearance is undoubtedly a reason for its popularity. I tried a few presets and tweaks, and although the plugin would probably be useful, I don't see what it gives me over and above the plugins that I already own. With UAD plugins, the Precision Multiband and Precision Maximizer do the trick pretty well. For this money, you're better off buying Izotope Ozone 5.
