Character!
Each version of the LA-2A on offer has it's own unique character, which work well in different scenarios. One thing remains consistent throughout - they all sound awesome. I tend to use for dynamic levelling as something towards the end of a chain. I can get a lot of level whilst still maintaining punch and transients. Gives a lot of weight and depth as well. A great all rounder for dynamics!

This is perhaps my go to plug-in now. Vocals, drums, stereo mix, sound design. It's simply the best sounding EQ I've ever used in the box. You can balance a mix effortlessly. I've used my emulations of the Pultec - this one is by far the best out there short of having it hardware. Outstanding!

1176 Classic Collection
Well, I try not to review anything until some time has passed so I'm more open to the reality of whether it's really doing what I originally expected. That said, this plugin bundle is exactly what it claims. I got it specifically because I had some vocal tracks that I was having trouble getting to sit right in the mix for an album I was mixing. I knew what needed to be done. I needed the hi-mid push and rock solid limiting that an 1176 gives when you put the ratio at 12:1, attack on 6, release on 7 and give 5-7db of gain reduction. I've used 1176's and Purple MC-77 hardware and this plugin didn't dissappoint. I tried all 3 and the E version was what I was looking for. It did the job and allowed me to move forward with the mixing process.

The Indispensable LA2A!
I really like that classic LA2A sound and now I have the different versions as well. Vocals get even and gain body and weight. Vintage...Yes of course! Not a transparent compressor, but that is why you choose LA2A. Outstanding Vocal compressor; Bass always gets the LA2A-sauce. And the 3 versions bring their own character to the table. UA really copied the hardware very well it in this new LA2A collection. Indispensable in every mix!!!

UA 610A (&B)
Very nice preamp. Especially when using it with Unison. I prefer the UA 610A to the 610B, but have not used it on many occasions, since I just bought it.

Green Board Ahoi
I cannot compare to the hardware model. But building up the Green Board on my own is fun. Besides the fun it is pure joy. The 610A is truly beautiful and yes, i mean the sound! The highs are superb for guitars, damn this thing has a special vibe going on by putting this in the way. The A is quite limited compared to the B Version in termes of how you can set it up. But the sound pleases me more,.. so I don't need more Pregain stages etc. I use this as my standard preamp for everything and go from there if I try something else as a reference.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The LA-2A collection is digital with heart and soul, these sound gorgeous on just about anything you can throw at them. Demo them right now if you haven't already and see what all the fuss is about.

1176 review..
This surprised me by how good it was,
It's the first 1176 plugin I have used that sounded like I think a real 1176 sounds.
Which was handy because it always seemed like a bit of a waste of effort to me making a front end for an 1176 plugin if it didn't sound like an 1176.

It's magic
I put it on a drum bus and the drums are like jumping right in your face, without penetrating. Warm and smooth. It gives voices a nice "body" just running through the chain. And then u start playing with the buttons, and the magic goes on...

Fantastic Emulation
Having used the originals in the 80's I can truly say that this plug-in captures the full LA-2A vibe, right down to the distortion when its pushed hard.
Take this, the 1071 input, and maybe the 1081 eq and strap them in the console app and you won't be disappointed.
Fantastic on vocals or really any full-range source.

1176: The essential compressor
I just had to take a moment to say how great the UA 1176 compressor collection is. As soon as I tried the demo, I was hooked and bought it the same day. The UA 1176 adds character and loudness without making things sound compressed, and it's become part of my go to vocal chain along with the LA-2A. Just a touch of the 1176 to catch the peaks, and the LA-2A to even things out and add a glow, and you're golden! Superb!

LA-2A collection review
I've been using the LA2A collection for nearly a year now I believe and have really implemented it as part of my main dynamic control tools.
Favorite applications:
1. Leave vocals - 1176 with slow attack, fast release followed by the LA2A grey getting about 2-3 db of compression on the high spots.
2. Drum Overheads - tames harsh cymbals and pulls everything in together.
3. Bass - Typically with bass, Ill stack the LA2A first and get maybe 2-3 db on the high spots, then add another compressor (often 1176) behind the LA2A to give a slightly more constant compression.
I typically prefer the Grey and Silver models, but each has its own vibe Also really love the emphasis control. This is a MUST when used on vocals.

Amazing sound and value, buy this!
As soon as I tried out the LA-2A collection demo, I had to have it. It really sweetens every vocal I've tried it on, and having three LA-2A's to pick from depending on the sound I'm looking for is just incredible. Combine this with the 1176 collection and your vocal chain will sound first class. I can't believe that I now have the sound of this legendary hardware in my DAW for this kind of money.
